Topic: need help identifying transmission

i have a 1991 pickup with w56 as the vin plate says, but with the transmission out and on the ground looking at the marlincrawler website under transmissions looks more like a g54 but not quite because it has a black center section as compared to a gold center section.  any help would be greatly appreciated.

post up pics it would help us greatly....pretty sure it shuld be a w56 unless someone swaped it tho

I don't think the color of the center plate matters.

My W56b has a black center too.

If you click on the each transmission on the main transmission page, you'll get more pictures

youll notice between the two shifter ports there is a dropped section(little recess)
as well the ribs directly under the shifters have round nubs in them that the w56 on the page doesnt have\

also pay no attention to the bellhousing(iirc thats for our 3rzfe swap) but its been so long lol

Yep, it's either a G52 or G54......

thanks for that, so you dont think the center section colors matter? can i narrow it down to 52/54?

If you can determine what the input bearing is............

kinda sucks makes me wonder where the w56 went lol.  this was supposed to be bone stock when we got it.
