DualTransfer Case Question
« on: Dec 18, 2011, 09:08:43 PM »

I  am just collecting parts for my 4runner build and have a question.  I am looking at a MC ultimate dual transfer case with the 2.28 and the 4.7 in the rear.  Looking at pulling the purchase pin on a complete built dual case by MC.   I was wondering if I go with the 10 degree clock, would a  budbuilt dual case crossmember fit, or would I need another type of crossmember?  Not sure if the 10 degree option would create any other problems for my intended set up (I have a MC high pinion front diff with 5.29's and am looking at  getting a Dave'z triple stick).

My set up currently.  1985 4runner with a 22RE and a W56. Parts not currently installed include lift kit (4 inch in front , 5 inch in rear, 5.29 gears and ARB lockers  (complete units by MC) both front and rear, V6 rear axle).

Am looking at doing a "clean build" and have started off with 4runner that I spent 10 months looking for and locted down in CA.

holy crap. keep that thing how it is, and buy a built rig PLEASE. That thing is nice, and those are hard to find now.

Otherwise, for a clean build, I dont see the r10 hurting anything, although he shifter itself will sit at 10 degrees, and you may be cutting into the floor board more

Thanks,   She is pretty clean.  Wanted to find one with no rust and it was quiet a task.

Looks like I should  probably go with a 0 degree dual case to eleminate  cutting  further into the floor.

I'd try to figure out how to do a triple lever setup so all the transfer levers are in the stock location...............

this, buy a triple stick, dont cut anything on it if possible, again I think you should keep that thing like it is man, im sure someone would give you a built runner already done for it. In the end though, its your truck, and you should do what you want

You make a really good point.  I have definately grappled with whether to keep it stock (even getting the original 15 inch rims, returning the stock radio (would make it eligible for collector plates) and just enjoying it.

The other part of me as originally planned was to pick up a clean 4runner and make a really clean capable build unit to use on the weekends, not a bush thrasher.

I originally started planning for this back about a year and a half ago when I decided to sell the old BJ42 landcruiser I had.  Thing just had way too much rust on body and frame was absolutely toast.  I can't stand rust and wanted to get something very clean.

Hey hazmat,
Seems like your thread has been hijacked with admirers, like me. Please go easy on that old girl, you have a rare gem & dying breed there.

To answer your questions no a budbuilt won't fit. You would need a custom made skid plate or a frontrange skidplate. Also you will need to cut more sheet metal. My thoughts are the same as yours and I ended up with the 0 degree adapter do to I wanted cut as little as possible. I'm running front range dual stick and the budbuilt skid plate.  I'm happy so far and haven't seen any down side yet. Hope this helps
