what will be a good cheap lift kit
« on: Nov 30, 2011, 09:03:50 AM »
I want to squeeze 35in mud tires on my 1979 toyota pickup truck what are some good cheap lift kits on the market. I looked into All Pro lifts they are way out of my budget plus they look like they require allot of time to put on
P.S. I do not want to use lift blocks.

Ruf and chevy 63, or f150s. Or, no lift and some fender trimming, I did that before I did anything to my old truck

are saying a rough country lift kit for a chevy 63 or f150 will fit my truck. Or do you mean you use the springs off these year model trucks. Little confused on what you meant.

Search around. Lift kits ride like crap. Ruf is rear springs up front. For the rear Chevy 63s or f150 springs require cutting off your old spring hangers and welding new ones on

Shackles and a decent spring pack will do the job keep it to a minimum since the more you lift the more that will have to be done to correct the steering geometry issues that will come up. The more you lift with the push pull steering the more it will pull the geometry out of line an adjustable draglink will correct this issue. If you don't mind a harsh ride the OEM length ready to install springs from the big box suppliers.

3" body lift should fit those 35s for about a hundred bucks or less.

If you want to really do it cheap and easy get some extra stock leaf packs to add to the rear springs and a set of rears up front with and extral leaf or so with a re-drilled center pin hole so they work with the stock steering.  I used these with longer shackles and a set of longer shocks and the results are pretty good. More travel, better ride quality and very inexpensive.  You can net about a 2-2.5" lift, maybe more if you do the j-ball flip on your steering.  With a little triming and hammering on the firewall seams you should be able to run 35s.

As stated above, cheap lift springs really suck.

Get the springs off of a 2wd chevy or ford F150 That is what they are talking about,  Toyota rears up front. That is how mine is done.  Cheap and works great.

just leave it stock and throw the 35s on they should clear already as long as you get the back spacing right...

I ran 35s on an old 1980 bone stock just hammered the pinch weld and never looked back... Im currently running 33s and could easily step up to 35s again

Don't go over 2" body lifts, too many mods need to be done and the shifters get real short plus the floor may need to be cut and the boot can cause it to pop out of gear.
