Which is exactly why americans won't embrace electric vehicles.

The Roberts was designed and marketed towards women because they were unable to use the hand cranks on cars back then to get them started.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Yep! There is no replacement for displacement...I've got 1.5 liters of pavement wrinkling power, 5spd...if I turn the air on...I still get 39-40 in town. Of course, I can't hardly get on an Interstate...at 80mph it sounds like a dentist's drill.

We need to focus on clean, eco friendly power before we worry about electric cars.

theres a tree in Brzail thar you can take sap right from it and run it in a diesel.
ya might be able to do that for very small cars on short trip i.e. work and back butt
that will not be practical for large trucks and train and ships. just to much vol.
to meet with that sapply unless you trun all of the mid=west into a corn field.

You'd be surprised what a diesel motor will run on, being a Petroleum Specialist in the Army you learn where you can squeeze fuel from just about everything. Wish I could remember half the stuff you could use to burn in a diesel.

I seam to remember something about an "all fuel contantel" (sp? ) would run on all kinds of stuff. booze, runny grease, motor oil, dino farts,  butt yeah there are engs. that will run on lots o diff stuff youd never think it would.

I have no idea what you're trying to spell...however, I'm sure you are inches away from making the most salient point of this discussion.

As far as turning food into fuel...I think, with the world population reaching 7 billion (this month)...that might not be the best plan.

There are alternative (my favorite...algae) bio sources, petro-fuels as yet untapped and coal gasification. A little more work with some enzymes and ethanol will be available from crops that can produce multiple harvests a year.

EIDT...is that Continental?

Well, if you have no food...think of all the fuel you'll save NOT going to the drive through!!!

Seriously though, I was thinking along the same line as you but currently farmers are paid to not grow crops which they could do and turn that product into fuels. The unfortunate side of food fuels would be prices would skyrocket.

What is funny to me about all this ta-do on hybrids or electric vehicles is where does most of this electric engery come from? Dino farts, most electric suppliers still use fosil fuels to produce electricity so for me it is all smoke and mirrors. The more electric vehicles on the road just means the grid will get stressed out to the max causing even more brown outs and increased use of fuels to produce the electricity to charge all these electric vehicles.
