I'm toying with different ideas of attaching some 6 inch speakers to the Rollbar in my 4Runner. Either by welding in some extra tubing as support brackets, or using the existing "Y" somehow.

I figured I'm not the first one to have this idea. Anyone got any pics? Maybe some tips?  :gap:

I would think you could make a box that would fit in each corner of the roll bar and face toward the back of your head. Just secure the box with zip ties around the bars kind of like this.....

Sparkplug

Tube clamp screwed into a 6x9 box, run wire into roll bar

A set of ultra cool tube clamps modifed to fit your box or visa versa.  Although I would choose marine enclosures over wood..

I think you are asking if you can build them into the sides ?  IF so yes     have you ever worked with fiberglass ?

I like to put mine over the wheel well against the bed sides. If you put them in the corner then you wack your head on them a lot. just me. I like to sleep in the back :)

Lol nope but the G/F used to do Fiberglass/Composite Repair. So fabbing something up won't be that hard to do. I was just trying to think of ways to mount it and where. I want it up out of the way so it's not obscuring my vision.

I have some ideas in my head about mounting it up like the Wranglers do (as someone mentioned). It's gotta be strong enough to not come loose while wheeling, etc.

Figured I would throw it out there just in case someone had done this before and their thoughts on it. I don't want to go cheap on it. I want it to look nice.

What were you thinking about?

explain?

I think he's talking about mounting it in the side panels back there. The thought had crossed my mind. But when it's loaded with gear they would be muffled. Plus when you take the top off having the speakers up high would make it easy to blast tunes while tailgating  :gap:.

I had some thoughts about replacing those with fiberglass pieces and perhaps adding reinforcement to mount an amp or 2 behind it.  I really want to redo the entire interior. Make it look factory fresh with but a twist.

Those are nifty looking. They could come in handy.

Are you talking about the tubes that hang down on the towbars?

well  if it was me  i would   build  the subs into the rear area .  then  were you have those areas infront of the rear seats  put your mids .   you will see holes there becuse there used to be mids there  and then your highs  up front .   you could even put tweeters in the b piller  to fire towards your ears.

You know that's funny now that I think about it. I haven't crawled into the back seat once yet lol.

I haven't decded if I want to run a sub or not. Part of me wants too, the other part of me doesn't want to because of mounting, bigger amp, more cost.

But I'm sure I could find room for a Pioneer slimline 10 inch sub lol.

Yea, you know. if you sit them up length wise above the wheel wells against the inside they fit in the upside down "Y" created by the hoop and the support. You are correct though, they are muffled when Im packed with gear, have some up front under the dash in the stock position too though.

I just dont like stuff sticking out.

Ok
make a bracket that uses the bolts to hold your top on above and behind the drivers head. there are 4. on the backside of the lip is a 1 inch recess giving you a bit to work with. They wont be flush, but they wont stick out so much.

or you could bolt right through the side of the box and put the speaker box back together. Wouldnt go bigger then a 6 inch though unless you had a clever way to keep it stable

That's not a bad idea. I hadn't even looked at that area.
