New tire selection????
« on: Sep 19, 2011, 12:38:08 PM »
So i just tore a lug off the side of my old style bfg mud terrains leaving about a 1"x1" size whole.  I am currently running a 35X12.6X15 BFG mud terrain.  I feel like its time for a new set shoes but when I started searching around nothing sounded any better than my BFG's.  I am looking for something that is aggressive in a 35-37".  I play in rocks snow mud and drive on the street.  The problem I am having is with my 15'' rim most radial tires i have been looking at only have a 2 ply sidewall.  My BFG has a 3 ply and I just ripped a lug off a tire with 90% tread left.  Is there any radial tires out their that will fit my 15'' rims and have a thicker sidewall?

Bfg km2's with a warranty. I have run these tires on the tow rig, and the dd/ mild wheeler for a while now and there awesome.   They have the best wear out of any tire I have owned, not to noisy on the road, and hook up great in the mud, snow ,and from what i've seen in the rocks also( although I have not been able to personally test them that well on rocks).

If I remember correctly they are a 3 ply sidewall construction, and they have beefy side lugs.

I have heard mixed reviews about the km2s.  That they weren't a great snow tire.  I also have had the bfg mud terrain on my last three
Trucks and i wasnt impressed with them in the snow.  That's why I would like to try something different.

I had thrown the pitbull out at first because it weighed so much more but it's only about 10lbs heavier per tire. So maybe that is the way to go.

Hopefully the extra weight of the pitbull is in the sidewall.

I've seen the pitt bulls in action they are nearly indestructable.  My next set of tires will be radial rockers in either a 35 or a 37.

I have heard that aswell. In my experiences there about the same as the mtrs in snow.

Sounds like the pitbulls might be worth a try, don't forget to look at the irok radials also.

By indestructable you mean? They hook up good or what?

The irok radials only have a 2 ply sidewall for the tires for 15" rims

Oh never looked into them just heard about them.

From what I've gathered you have three options, mtr with kevlar, km2, or pitbulls. Reading the reviews on these tires, they all have people that say there good and people that have problems.  This leaves you to make a decision to spend some good money on tires that you might like, or might not be all the way satisfied with .  From the information in this thread so far( not my opinion) it sounds like the pitbulls are your best bed.

Mtr Kevlar.. I am running 35s and will soon be up grading to 37s when I get 17 inch wheels. I will never run another tire. I highly reccomend goodyear mtr kevlar. 3 psi in the snow and you are unstoppable

Only problem with MTR's is availability. I payed for a set of 38.5's back in march and the end of June they still had not shipped and had no ETA on when they would. So cancelled those and I went with IROK's
If I hit it just right, I might make it.

Well they do hook up good but by indestructable I mean hard to damage...  We have a 4x4 trials comp most years and I've seen them literally snag rebar hanging out of old chunks of concrete with the sidewall without any damage.  I'm sure results will vary among users but from what I have seen first hand these are really tough tires.

I wonder how indestructible the radials are though?

you can usually buy some sort of warranty if your worried. I bought the certificate program from america's tire for my 35 km2s where if i happen to damage one, they will replace it for free.
