Clutches
« on: Feb 08, 2005, 08:09:18 PM »
How hard is it to replace a stock clutch with an aftermarket centerforce or something,  And Are there any other awesome clutches out there you would reccomend?? My OEM Clutches seem to only last me through like 6 months of driving :(   It is a 1990 22re

Thanks

I would recommend the Marlin 1200 lb :gap: i am about to put mine in once i get my pistons redone and ill let ya know ;) i dont think it would be that hard if u take the driveshaft/tcase/tranny way... but i think the motor would be a little more difficult
86 Toyota 4runner, 33X12.5-15 Aurora RT/02's on Series 97 15X10 rock crawlers, 3" performance body lift, Rancho RS5000's... Soon to be Marlin 1200 Clutch, tube bumper front and rear, nerf bars and roof rack... future plans include SAS 5.29's detroits!

What's so good about a Centerforce? Unless they improved them they go away at high rpm. I have even had them refuse to ingage at high enging speed and slam in as the engine slowed down. Those weights on the pressure plate have to be causing the problem. I went back to using stock turbo clutches and had a lot less problems. If you don't go with the ceramic disk at least go with a HD pressure plate and an OEM style like Marlin sells. If you have the rite gearing you will have less trouble with the clutch.

I'm just relaying my experiance with them. That was some years ago and they may have fixed them by now. Still it leaves a sour taste in my mouth when I remmember it.
