I'm actually getting ready to give one of marlins clutch set ups a go. I have ran factory ones for years with no problems but figured what the heck. My truck is due for a new clutch.

I'd go with the 1600 #.  I got the 1200 # and its as smooth as butter.  But you can tell it engages hard if you slip it.  I didn't get the 1600 thinking it was gonna be too heavy on the left leg.  But after getting the 1200 I'd get the 1600 in a heartbeat.

The one thing I didn't do, was get the flywheel machined to the 0.026" step.

Hmmm, I was actually thinking of going with the heaviest set up I can run in my truck and I was thinking of putting my turbo trans in... Sorry, I don't mean to hi jack, at least it's on topic.

I went with Marlin's 1600 and was a little worried that it would wear me out. It doesn't really take much more effort than the stock clutch though. I'm happy with it.

I did have the .026 step machined in the flywheel.

I just ordered the 1600 clutch... I let you guys know how I like it. What are you talking about the .026 step?

You can just barely see it in this picture.  There is 0.026" of a difference between the mounting surface of the clutch housing, versus where the clutch itself engages the flywheel.  I didn't do it, cause I forgot to request it.  :smack:

Another added bonus to running a turbo flywheel, it is roughly 9/16" larger in diameter.  So more clamping surface.

I've had the stock clutch in my 88 but I'm also going to step up to the 1600# Marlin clutch. My buddy has a 10" TRD clutch in his 89 and loves it. That thing GRABS!!

I am running the 1800 lb clutch kit in my dd. I love it. I'm running a .026 step as well. I love it. The clutch maybe a little stiff for women and I don't mean that in a condisending way. I love the way my grabs and feels.

So when i go have my flywheel resurfaced at a machine shop i just ask for a .026 step? Is this a specialty thing or will any machine shop know?

You just ask them to step it to .026 and they will.

You shouldn't have a problem finding a place that can do it. There are three or four with in a couple blocks of each other where I live.
