3rd member question
« on: Aug 28, 2011, 10:05:34 AM »
I recently put a hole in my front 3rd member diff housing. I was able to buy an empty 3rd housing but it did not come with the bearing caps. Will the caps from my old housing work or do they have to be some how matched? Do the caps and housing get line bored from the factory? :dunno:

Nope, it's beyond repairing.

You can use the other caps, beyond repair in in the eye of the beholders. You could cut the entire front piece off of a housing and weld on a new one, make one, what ever.

Depending on where the hole is it might be a good candidate for a shave job to gain a little extra clearance.

You can use the other caps,
No you cannot unless you have them line bored again, that is why you mark them before you take it apart. The same as you do rod caps and main bearing caps on an engine.

Thanks Oops. I was thinking that might be the answer. Just wanted to get another opinion.
