Third member seal question
« on: May 25, 2005, 06:20:02 PM »
Is there a seal that goes between the third member and housing? My trusty FSM doesn't show any, also what the hell is anaerobic sealant?

Yes there is a gasket, but you can use grey rtv silacone.

Used black RTV
Let sit for 1 hour, then put on the 3rd.

Im curious about this anaerobic sealer its supposed to be a liquid kind of like thread locker, its made by permatex and good for joining parts such as third members but its not resistant to gas

anaerobic sealer is a very good though semi expensive sealer that bonds in the ABSENCE of oxygen (air) hence the name ANaerobic. basically, you can put a bead on something and it will never set up till you bolt 'er together. a tube at NAPA usually goes for about 12 bucks...but ultra gray or ultra black will work very well for this.
