California Campfire Permit, Online!
« on: Aug 26, 2011, 09:44:18 AM »
I found a link to printing out campfire permits online, free.  It saves the headache of taking time to go in.  Hope this helps some of you who need to get them.

yup.  and if you don't its a pretty hefty fine.  2 years ago at the rounup, leo's were walking the trail and they were checking people's permits at buck.  It's a good idea to have one if you plan on camping anywhere in comifornia.

this is straight from the forest service website...

Campfire Permits
A California campfire permit is required for a fire outside a designated recreation site. A permit is available free-of-charge from any Forest Service, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Bureau of Land Management office. Go to our Campfire Permit page for information on how to obtain a campfire permit.

Violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six months or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559 and 3571

Well if its free it aint as bad as I had thought. But its still the principle of the fact that you have to have a permit for a simple campfire.

Dry weather and dry timber add in some yahoo or JA and it spells trouble.

I agree with you in theory.... but I also see why they "educate you". Too many people just plain lack common sense and need basic instruction. Fires take off way too easily and can burn for months, destroying timber, wildlife habitat, and homes.

May as well add that if your fire gets away from you, at least you can't say you never knew it could happen....
My goal in life is to be as a good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

It's a Commifornia thing, I don't understand :dunno:
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I have never understood the campfire permit either. I have gotten plenty before from Rangers, or the fire station in Shaver and never have been asked anything. Just fill it out, they sign it, and that it. Seems kind of pointless. I would at least understand it if they went over basic safety, or made money.

Great link by the way. Thanks much for posting that.

please no charcoal fires, unless its in a designated bbq stands. its a big ticket.  propane is OK! these forests in CA are EXTREMELY dry. we're getting fires everyday because of lightning. no need to have a human caused one!

thanks!
Let's put a smile on that face!
