« on: Jan 30, 2005, 11:01:20 PM »
hey guys, I have an 85' toy that i just recently put a chevy 350 in, right now im running the stock axles and tranny?transfer case, i think im gona put a dana 44 in front, and dana 60 in the read, and spooled in both, and i already have a t-18 tranny for it with a 205 transfercase, but i was just wondering if anyone els has done this, cus im contomplating leaving the axles full width or cutting them, i do plan on axle truses and coil overs

The stock Toyota axles are equal to D44s.  Why change?  Many parts, readily available, affordable.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all, to ever learn anything...

Run full-width 60's F+R. As for spooling both :headscratch: . I wouldn't run one up front.

Forget the 44, dana 60's or keep the yota and put in the new longfields.

Parts readily available and affordable?  For a toy front axle?  My ass!!!!  These are getting harder to find and more expensive by the day.  44s are everywhere.  I think parts are cheeper for them.  A 44 and a 60 is a good setup.  Id put alloy axles and CTMs in the 44 though.  If it was me Id cut em down though.  I know a couple of guys that have gone fullwidth, on the trail there fighting it all the way.

no complaints with my 44/60 combo. I narrowed em to 62" and I run moser 35 splines shafts and disk brakes on the rear 60. Front is stock shafts but retubed (it's a HP ford)

I have yet to bust my stock 44 shafts and I have had people all around me bust birfields

As for the 44/toy comparison, there isn't one - apples to oranges. A toy axle might be comparable in strength (debatable) but you can build a 44 any width you want in your garage with basic tools, you can run 8 lug outers, or bolt on 6 lug outers. You can run CTM's and allow shafts if you want and now you can't compare to birfields - even longfields etc. Not knocking the toy axle, it has it's place - it was great in my jeep

I think I posted NP435 for the tranny allready, maybe not.

ARB is gonna start selling a locker for the D44 where you can run D60 Axleshafts. The 205 doesn't have a very good crawl ratio(under 2:1)

they have that - for the rear and superior sells the shafts for it (35 spline 1.5" diameter)

Now if they can do something for the front..
