Napa is ok if you get the right kit.

LC Engineering has a few if you are wanting alot more performance.
If you see it, its for sale.

Lots of kits are the same, just marked up, or 1 thing different, or it has a oil pump or a water pump. I prefer clevite for bearings, thats really all I myself care about. Maybe get a t kit with steel rail. Get rods conditioned and crank done up. Most of the reliability is going to come from putting it together correctly.

I had a bunk set of rod bearings from engine builder, they were in a ROCK box but ended up being TDC which is cheap chinese :pokinit: Very clean in assembly and used Lubriplate 105, primed oil system before start up and within 3000 miles they literally crumbled.... I re-mic'd the journals to see if I flopped it up but it was still in specs. Never seen bearings just crumble like that! Clevite bearings are the only way to go! Quality parts, machine work, assembly and initial start up are very critical to longevity! :beerchug:

I used clevite bearings as stated above with perfect circle rings when I rebuilt my 83 2wd. I bought all my rebuild stuff from napa. Besides the bearings rings and gaskets everything I purchased from them (water pump, oil pump, timing chain, etc.) was made in Japan and looked to be factory reboxed items because we could not tell a difference between a few of the parts we had from the dealership. Still going strong after 30k+ (rebuild happened at 235k miles). I used the same parts when I rebuilt my 80 4wd over the summer and it is still working great as well.

I rebuilt my dads 1980 20r with clevite bearings and all napa stuff.... running strong after 40k+ miles! as long as the parts arent chinese.... I despise chinese parts......
