  My buddy who has a 91 tayota v6 reg. cab short bed decided he wanted to lift it to clear 35's.  We started loking around at the possibilities and I had a toyota front axle out of an 84 I told him he could have for free .  We figured it would be about $1500 for the driveline, gears, locker, breaklines, springs and the materials to fabricate the spring hangers, shackles and steering.  He said it would be to much work for the SAS and without saying anything took his truck to the local 4wheelparts shop and had them install a 3in body lift on with a grand total of $482.66     they did it. He brought it to my house to show me and I about fainted when he told me how much he paid.  Of course I explained to him that he could of bought a body lift for $80 and we could of installed it for 3-4 hr. of our own labor and been done.  He did not belive me and started to tell me all this  :bull crap: they told him he had to buy to complete it.  this cleared him for a set of 33in pro comp x-terains.

Four months later he said he wanted even more lift.  i brought up the SAS idea and he said it was still to much work.  Well one day while i was working right across the street from Les Schwab I saw his truck there so i took a break and went to see what they were doing.  I walked in at the sme time he was picking his truck up after having a 4in rough country lift installed w/blocks in the rear.  i looked at the invoice for  ........$2800 Green backs      .

But it gets bette, he ran his 33in. procomps till they wore out and decided to get 35-16/15 boggers. He went back to Les Schwab to buy the tires and they told him the boggers would not fit on his 10in wide rims and he would have to buy new rims that were at least 12in wide so he bought new rims.  I dont know what the price for the tires was but i gave up on the fool .  I thought I would share with everybody and hopfully help others out.  Somtiomes you can get realy screwed over if you dont know enogh about what you are planning on doing,  but if your as bad off as my old buddy then you might as well give up now case some day you gonna be broke.

I blows me away what people spend to "lift" an IFS truck, Toyota, Chevy Whatever.  And for all that money you don't get more travel, and in a lot of cases you don't even get more ground clearance.  But remember, most of those fools don't care.  All they care about is being BIG, and looking cool.


I don't have much money and getting my truck dirty is what I call fun.  That's why my broke behind has been wheeling stock IFS for years.  I added F/R lockers, a set of Mud Terrians, unhooked the sway bar and hit the trails.  And my little truck is always pulling lifted trucks because they have 6" lift with 35s but they have stock gears and open diffs.  I am just now starting to piece together the parts I need for a SAS.  I can't wait to get it done.  Picked up the axle this weekend.

I have not talked to him in a while but as soon as I do i will inform him of this site .  Mabey he can Learn a thing or two.  Dont get me wrong his truck looks good and performs well just because its a  toyota.  Its how much money he and others like him spend to get their trucks their.  By the way he is a body man at a auto body repair shop in Issaquah, WA not sure wich one.

Have you guys seen what guys are doing to 2wd trucks.  Its crazy here in Southern Cal.  Every poser in town has a lifted 2wd truck. I mean what they heck is a 2wd F150 with 38" Swampers good for, this is the guy down the street from me.  My 87 with F/R lockers and 31s will drive circles around that thing.  I bet he has stock gears too.  It's like an epidemic, everyone has one.

I don't know what's worse a lifted 4x4 that never sees dirt or a lifted 2wd.

I was in pismo a couple of months ago, and seen four brand new chevy trucks with more crome below the frame. Just picture this, four black full size chevy trucks, with all kinds of bars from left to right, angles, all across. That was ugly, just chrome pipes going all over the place. Anybody even know what there for?

There another guy on the other side of town that has a Beat up ugly looking green 70's 1 ton chevy 4x4 with shiny 20+" wheels and those 48" Michelins.  Oh, and he doesn't have a front driveshaft.

3" body lift, 3" adjustable coilovers, 3" blocks in the rear, 15x12" wheels, 33x14.50 Boggers.
I just didn't know any different.
I've learned since then.
I do have to say though, I wheeled the hell out of it.

But the important part is you wheeled it,  you didnt keep it all shiny and cry if you hit the curb and there was a white mark on the tire.

I've had this argument with street 4byers and have yet to hear a good answer; what's cool about having a "lifted" truck with the ENTIRE frame showing(chevy) or the front ifsucks all pretty, powdercoated and sticking way the hell down below the truck?  Certain trucks should not be allowed to have a bodylift, like most chevys and nissans.  Why are some manufacturers so blind to see that certain companies have learned to tuck things away nicely, while their stuff is hangin low where it can get hung up on a large speed bump?  I don't get it!!!!!!   Nate

Concreate Off Roaders were not ment for extreme off roading. They never advertise that they can go off roading (Chevy, Ford)

These 4x4's were just made to be able to haul stuff, and haul it on dirt roads, they never say there will be rocks on the dirt road.

Its just like Honda's. Nobody said you can put all this crome noise maker stuff with neon light, and race them on the street. Thats just what some people do.

If you want a true race car, go buy one.

If you want a true 4x4 vehicle, Call Marlin

Its that simple.


We should get some posters made to help all those confused people you see in Pismo of the differnce between a pavement 4x4 and a true off road vehicle.

Thats the least of what we can do.
