does anyone out there know what that little black box with 2 wires coming out it is. its on the drivers side inner wheel well and is simply bolted to the sheet metal and is about 1 inch square

Whats it tied into? I remember a similar looking box when I got my 86 cab to put on my 84. However, it was labled "Emissions Control". Obviously not for a 84 as it was an EFI thing.

I was gonna say it is a resistor of some sort. Since that coil is aftermarket and looks like they had to get creative to make it work.

that's actually an accel coil to a gm 4 pin module.

But yes its for the factory ignition, just ignore it (or figure out how to use it with the current system?) or just ignore it, lol
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.
