Just an idea on your bill for the hospital, talk to the billing department about grants. My mother-in-law had a rather large hospital bill and the billing dept found a grant that paid her bill in full! It's worth checking out!!

OK I was on the phone with him last night, and I got the dope on what happened and I have his permission to share...

TMI WARNING!

It seems he had a large roid in the

which ruptured. The first time he went to the hospital they put him on intravenous antibiotics for a couple hours and sent him home with some meds.
The next day he was feeling worse and went back to the hospital, they determined he at severe risk of sepsis and had to operate.

It's a catholic hospital and he did say he was talking to the nun's there about getting help for his expenses.

It's actually called a "peri-rectal abscess" They can be a real pain in the ass (pun intended) to treat. Often if we catch them early enough IV antibiotics can do the trick, but unfortunatly, most do require I&D (incision and drainage). Because there is a direct communication with the peritoneal cavity, we often will take them to the operating room to ensure we get the whole thing out. Often times they are directly related to a diverticuli, which forms the abscess. Depending on the approach, there is either an outisde opening, or sometimes there is an internal opening. Typicaly, a few days in the hospital getting IV gorilla-cillin, then oral antibiotics and lots of pain meds. There is a small, but real risk that it will occur again.

Hope this gives a little insight.

He did say something about a diverticuli before he went to the hospital the first time.
And they have him on a demoral (sp?) pump but he says it doesn't help enough. He said removing and replacing the packing is particularly painful!

I talked to him earlier today.He said he was feeling a little better.Just hated it when they had to change his packing.

.He said most likely he'll get to go home in the morning.
