Who's got em the good bad and ugly of boating looking into getting a inexpensive little boat any ideas

like what/ a ski boat or afishing boat, or an inflatable? we bought n inflatable, it was pretty fun, but a lot of work, it did have an option for a small motor.... we never got into it much, but we were looking into it, found tons of info online, and found we could mount a motor a lot bigger than what the specs rated it for.....

what kind? what size? I've had a few of them from a small inflatable to a 23ft glaspar I ran in the ocean and a few inbeteew.

get a party barge i have had 5 different boats from a small o/b  boat to a large family cruiser .and my pontoon boat is by far the most fun.they can be inexpensive easy to fix and are very light so towing is not a problem if you get one with a 90 you can have fun on the tube and if you are light enough you can ski behind it. my current boat is a 30 '  with a 5.7 merc i/o  [yes it is a pontoon boat] we can wake board behind it with a full crowd on board while grilling ,it's lots of fun. check playcraft extreme on utube i don't have one of those but i wish i did

got a 20' bayliner capri, inboard,
yamaha 3 seater waverunner with 1100 2 stroke

lots of upkeep
lots of money
lots of headaches, storage, keeping dry, covered
lots of FUN,

bayliners are great boats, cheap made but not priced
I personally hate outboards
the 4cyl boats do good enough for a family ski boat

I always thought, a boat for every occasion. The Seadoo' are the most fun, but you can't go wrong with a Boston Whaler Runabout. 16'  50hp.
Resist the urge to buy a boat!

I worked on boats for several years and was around them for much longer.  Your 2 happiest days of boat ownership are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. 

There are lots of good boats out there, and some not so great.  Bayliners are hit and miss.  Generally speaking, if you look under the helm of a bayliner and can read the funny pages, run!  I don't know the years, but they cut corners for too long.  If you can find a boston whaler that doesn't cost a small fortune, jump on it.

As has been said, it really depends on what you want.  I personally like outboards cause you have more available space inside the boat, but there are advantages to each engine layout.  I'm personally looking to purchase a reasonably clean 80ish tri-hull with a knock for $200-300, the advantage being it runs the same engine/drive unit I used to work on, and they're dirt simple.

I do some day hope to buy a 4 cylinder project boat and mod it to run a 20/22r hybrid 

If you want the most dependable i/o boat you can get, source one of the Toyota boats that were made for far too short a time.  They run the 4.7 v8 and are supposed to use much less fuel than comparable v8 boats, and are super dependable!

Nice I have a 89 seaswirl and a Kawi 750 sx, Ive been riding standups since I was a little kid, Jetski was my first addiction, Ive had about 10 diffrent ones since,

I used to have an old Volvo Penta trihull outboard. I got it for dirt cheap, and basically broke even when I sold it for $2000 a couple years later. They are plentiful, reliable, and simple to work on. May not be the classiest boat (I rather liked my funky 70s mustard yellow paintjob  ) but I had a lot of fun with mine and it went plenty fast on the lake.

I wish I didn't have to sell it, but I will probably get another one some day if I am looking for another boat project.

Like it has been mentioned, boats are money pits. Don't dive into one if you aren't wiling to drop some decent coin to get it reliable. Once you get all the bugs worked out (and there will always be more bugs) they are a lot of fun. Wish I could get another one but its just not in the cards at the moment.
