What 4Runner is the best?

96+ w/ 250k miles on 3.4
96+ w/ rebuilt 3.4
84-95 w/ rebuilt 22RE
84-95 w/ rebuilt 3.0
84-95 w/ 200k 22RE
84-95 w/ 3.4 motor swap

I am looking at replacing my beloved Tacoma to fit the new addition to our family.  I am also trying to reduce some debt so I am looking at buying a $4-5k 4Runner.  I will also be driving this vehicle a lot with work and want it to be reliable to drive daily and be capable of taking some abuse on the weekends.

I really want a 96+ Runner but in my price range they have high mileage.  How long does the 3.4 last?
I am possibly considering an automatic w/ the 3.4 but don't know how reliable the automatic is off road.

I like the 90-95 body style for 4 doors but am leery about the 3.0 that comes in 90% of them.

I like 84-89 body style for removable hard top but worry about reliability.

I want a solid axle/SAS but it will be a lucky find if I get that too.
