Hey guy's
I am getting ready to buy some 17' beadlock wheels. just wanting to get some suggestions on which style (steel - Aluminium), which brand?  DIY or prebuilt? I am thinking of going with Allied steel beadlocks. But also like the Trail ready HD aluminium beadlocks. Post up what you are running and what you like or dislike about the different styes/brands/metals.

thanx
If I hit it just right, I might make it.

Well, I think i have made up my mind on what beadlocks to run.
And the winner is...... SPYDERLOCK

After doing some research on my own into the different brands/styles/metals used, I decided on the design of the Spyderlock wheel.
I like that it was "born" a beadlock and not converted into one.
It has grooves on the clamping ring to "bite" into the bead for a better hold on the tire.
The mounting hardware is countersunk into the clamping ring to protect the bolt head from damage.
The clamping ring is a hefty 3/4" thick. Trailready is 3/8" thick. Allied is rolled steel so I am guessing 1/8" or so thickness.
If I hit it just right, I might make it.

ahh! those are sweet too. i think extreme 4x4 had those on the "way over the top" s10 truggy. good choice!

What I would run! http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174212

The Hutchinsons are sweet double beadlocks
- but DOT is not necessary unless you are a vehicle manufacturer, the wheels weigh over 50# each (BAD for a Toyota squirrel engine), and the Bolts stick out so far that some people say they catch on rocks and then are impossible to remove/repair.
If weight was not any issue,  i would love to run a doublelock.  Centerline also has their ICE Doublelock wheels- NICE.

Im thinking, if cost was not a factor- a Forged Alum. single beadlock with recessed ring bolts.  Like this-   http://www.racelinewheels.com/images/Product/medium/810.jpg

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SPYDERLOCK wheels!!!
And here is why:
I got my wheels in Black with Grey rings.
They arrived right on time and packed very well. When i opened the box the first thing i noticed was that it was not the "spyderlock" ring but a standard looking rock ring. I called AJ over at Spyderlock and left a message. She E-mailed me back with this.

Hey Chad,
I'm guessing that you're calling to let me know that you received your Spyderlock rings without the center section or the star pattern.  I had another customer call with the same issue.  I honestly don't know how this happened but since we have some of the rings manufactured by a company in California we must have received some of another company's rings.  I've been on the phone trying to get an answer and find out how many more might be like this.

However, someone here at the shop is also to blame because it didn't get noticed on three different occassions that it should have.  We are going to get the problem corrected as quickly as possible.  I will call you as soon as I can with a solution and I truly apologize.  I have never had 2 orders more screwed up in the entire existence of the business.  Please accept my apologies and know that I will get this problem fixed without a doubt.

I E-mailed her back saying thank you for getting this fixed., and got a customer service surprise , a good kind. This is the E-mail i got in return.

Thank you so much, Chad for your understanding.  If you would like them in aluminum I am happy to send them to you that way.  You can keep the metallic grey rings as the manufacturing company does not want them back.  At least you have an extra set of rings!  I can send you the new rings on Monday.  Will this be acceptable?  We just received the truck freight shipment yesterday afternoon and we have to check it in and verify the contents.

Also, I am going to send you some extra bolts, caps and inserts for the wheels.  You can always use some extra hardware.  Thanks again and I will email you a tracking number as soon as the rings are shipped.  Have a great day!

So, I got great one-of-a-kind wheels that was matched with one-of-a-kind customer service
and 2 sets of rings for my wheels.
All I can say is I am VERY happy I purchased from

I'm still trying to decide between Allied and Champions my self.

I also cannot decide if a 15" wheel is worth it to buy now.

Honestly no, With the way tire companies are going a 17" wheel at minimum would be the one to get. Not to mention its just a better setup overall anyway

That is kind of what I thought.  But I don't plan on running anything larger than a 35"

What do you think makes it better?   for me, the only thing i think of with bigger wheels is more rotational weight, but I know that doesn't really matter with my 4x4.

IronClad

Bigger wheel equals less sidewall. Less sidewall equals less sidewall wash at low pressure. You still get a wider footprint but without the steering problems. Which just makes for better handling offroad and even onroad at street pressure for the same reason.

looks good! What's the backspace on these?
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
Marlin 1200LB clutch

no substitute for 4wheel drive.

They only come in 3.5" backspacing.
If I hit it just right, I might make it.

One last change to them. I went and picked up a set of black bolts for the rings. I like the look of the black better then the shiny bolts.
I also added 1 container of Airsoft High Impact BB's to each tire for balancing.
Last set of 37's i weighed out like 20 ounces of BB's for balance.
This time I just dumped 1 container into each tire.
