Junk yard vehicles
« on: Mar 06, 2011, 08:47:47 AM »
 :hammer:Can anyone tell me if you can purchase whats left of the whole vehicle at a self serve wrecking yard. Two weeks ago my brother and I came across a complete 85 fourrunner that had just been put on the line. It and one other vehicle were the only ones in that row!  Looked like it had been sideswiped (lightly) in the drivers side and insurance must have totaled it out.  Only things I could see missing was the battery and catalytic converter which they pull by law. We got some good parts, but was thinking later, I should have asked to have the whole thing loaded on my trailer! If anyone knows, It would be nice to know next time without having to try and deal with the rocket scientist at the yard. Thanks....

you can... jsut gotta haggle with them on $

remember, they make a ton of money off of parts.... so they will probably want a crapload for a wrecked vehicle though

I knew I should have asked, I would pay 2k for the same vehicle on the street if it was barely running. Side swipe and all.

It would depend on why the vehicle ended up there, if it is an abatement vehicle or public safety removal as to the reason it is there then no they can't sell it to you, parts only. If it is there due to insurance salvage or for reg., drivers license, etc then they can.
