Thanks big Mike for responding, I've been away for a few days.
Definatley interested in the Toy Locks if they are not too expensive,  5.29 would be ideal, but not if I have to pay for a whole new set of gears. (hate to throw away a perfectly good set of 4.88's
.

:psss:No,,we won't have any throwing away of gears now...You just be a good drybone boy and sell those gears this way...I am setting up a 85 extra cab and could use the gears if you want to sell them..so just keep me in mind..... :psss:

Don't worry, I won't thow anything away.  My girl is building up a 85 Runner, she has 33's in mind.  We nabbed a set of 4.30's from 79 but 4.88's would be better.

Cruzila, what manifold?  what guages? a little mo info please!  Is this about the Powertank??
And if you ever come to Lone Pine (where you don't have to worry about wheeling under water) you can meet my ol'lady with the beer.

The power tank guy has a setup for arb's. I knopw several that run them. My personal opinion is I do not like the Co2 thing.

I've just completed installing Toyo lockers front and rear in my SAS'd 88' runner.  As this is my everything rig I stayed with the 4.10 gears.  The rear locker is out of a 98' Taco while the front is from a 93' FJ-80 and is high pinon, reverse cut.   The rear cost me around $450 while the front was a little more spendin coming in around $650.  Some mods to the axle housing are required to squeeze things in but it was well within my abilities and limited toolset.  The electrics were not a problem, just a relatively simple relay box.  Biggest hassle was just getting all the wires routed and fitted so as to not hang on things.  To protect the actuators I bolted on armor from Front Range Off Road.  They mostly fit though I had to do a little material removal as the bottom plate hit the third member before everything seated properly.

I just don't like air actuated things.  You have to have a pressure source, lines, fittings and they all have to not leak.  I'm better at keeping electrons from leaking than air molecules so that's why I went with the electric lockers.  By the way, for you folks who lust after a cable actuated locker.  Take the Toyo, remove the electric actuator and bolt on a simple gear attached to a lever and cable assembly.  Yes, you'll have to scratch your noodle about the specifics on the gear and lever mechanism but it shouldn't challenge this illustriously mechanically reclined bunch too bad.   It turns out that the basic mechanism in the Toyo locker is a rack and pinion set up where the rack is part of the shifting fork inside the diff.  The pinion is just a straight cut gear driven by the electric motor and is rotated around 90deg (or there abouts) to engage and disengage the locker.   This gear is not directly connected to the motor but has a spring between the gear and motor.  This is so that when you engage the locker and the teeth on the locking sprocket don't quite mesh up as things start to turn it has a preload which will ensure the locker engages.  This works in reverse as well.  If your running  torqued-up the slider can't disengage until there is enough slack in the rear-end to let things pop out.  Not a big deal, just let off the gas a bit and it pops out fine.  But for you lever dudes, you'll have to consider these conditions in the design of your gismo.

The only problem I fear with lockers of any flavor, they just might encourage you to be a lazier wheeler.  Pick a line, what line?  if things start to scratch....ENGAGE!

How true :thud: Lockers will not make up for bad driving. You still have to look where you are going. When I first did mine I found all it did was get me more stuck, further up on that rock :thud:

enough with the welded diff's I'm not building a ;D   rig for rocks only.

Talked with Marlin this mornin and we chatted long and hard about the pluses and minuses about either selectable locker.  Toy Locks won, only because they are slightly cheaper, way stronger, (this doesn't even include the air pump), and more reliable that arb's (so they say)  Marlin said the pain in it was getting them to fit in the carriers, but thank's to Benge, it doesn't sound all that hard.  Heh! if anyone want's to come out and help when I get these thing's I'll supply the

What's more funny Bigmike!  Is that I'm heading to Michigan for a week (family stuff ), and I will be flying out of Vegas.  It just so happens that Marlin will be in Vegas the same day, he'll have my new driveshafts ready for me.

I don't know if any  of you others find it uncanny?  But I do.    Marlin is GOD!!!

Heh! BigMike what does Marlin need for Christmas, he's been pretty good to me, so I'd like to thank him properly.  It's not often that you get to meet Godlike figures in the real world.  He's really made a difference with my truck, and my girlfriend really likes him. (that helps when your ready to drop a grand).

8) Hey Dry Bone-who's been good to who?  Who took apart two Toys by hand (no air guns), and then delivered the parts to Fresno in the back of a Bronco with a leaking rear axle! And then You make a Big Deal because I am going to meet you in Vegas. I thought you were bringing my Christmas present in the trunk of your car, (for a price). Every one needs a G54 for the holidays under their tree.  :talking: I can't wait.

Marlin How did you get away from the phones?
It's great to have ya on line.  THe G-54 is yours already, and your getting that dang runner flywheel.

OK maybe you don't need a christmas present (since you have 35 toyota's in your yard) So how about a run up and around a Sierra trail high in the Mountains.  Can't say where it's located just yet, but there is a nice 86 hilux at the bottom. (parts off this would make for some awesome stories).  Late Spring!!! Sound good...
