Hi guys just joined the Forum and I thought I would show you some picture of my toy, well I'm new to all the car stuff but I learn quick,

Here is my 1979 with a 22r engine from my 1983, all stock besides the 3" lift. Paid 600 buxs

22r

1983 with the leaking 20r engine, using it as parts even thought I bought this one first and for more money too. 800 buxs was what I paid

Day I got it.

Well Santa Cruz crawler I live in Martinez, I didn't know anything about what the truck had, I just wanted it to start my project. but if it has 4.88 I might just have to swap the axles. If you remember anything thing else thAt the guy said it had on it tell me so I don't buy something I need :), well not for now

You will only need to swap your gears if you plan on going big, like bigger than 36 or 37.  I am going to 4.88 on purpose with my 36 in Irok.  I also live a decent drive from wheeling spot, so I don't want to be taching out 5th on the drive there.

Where did u get those side drafts? Did they come w the brown truck?
When I looked at it it had a 20r 22r hybrid motor sidedraft Webbers
488 gears front and rear ,  a second throttle brake lever on the stick shifter
A tree fell on the bed !  The bottom end of the hybrid swap , need piston rings  that's what I was told.        But once apon a time that truck FAST.   Good parts
Was for sale$1000 firm capitola rd Santa cruz ca 95062
I'll be watching this build !

I was told with 5.29's and 35's on freeways fifth gear was too low.  my 4.10 sees 4th on free way just fine with 36 Iroks as long as its flat, and not windy.  My point was if I bought a truck with 4.88's I wouldn't be worried about swapping the axles.  Sounds like a good find to me.

I'd have to disagree with that, My truck with 5.29's and 35's would cruise perfectly at 70mph on the freeway in 5th gear.

Nice truck man. What exactly are you going for, mild trail truck or what?

Mytattootears

well im not sure what im going for, im new to building trucks and i dont have many friends that have built truck, so i dont know how far it will go but im trying to make it a truck that can keep up with some of you guys, hopefully hit some of the same trail i have seen on here

Your truck is a V6 though right?  First hand experience  22re with top shift trany on 5.29 will tach out with that size tire.  not trying to argue just point out if your tranny is geared different that will also be a factor.

Yes, good point. Do you have 4.70 or 2.28 in the t-case?

Asking me? I'm not sure yet, I'll be finding out once I start to rebuild the engine. Which will happen once I finish the rear suspension and axle. And I finally got a new toy to help me do that. And also just started on a door

down to the axle and frame. I'll be cutting up the Frame or something

LilChief87

looking good keep it up

Mytattootears

Nice build so far, wish I could find another 1st gen for those prices. And I hear ya about the old lady complaining, try building something with a wife and kids.  :hammerhead:

I would keep the bare frame if you have room for it, you never know when you may need to use it even if just to take some measurements. That is as long as it's not trashed.

Dondee

Looks Good. I have an 82 that ill be taking on its last trip to the Con for MCR10. After that she's coming apart for the next project. Family Crawler. :crossed:
