front end break conversions
« on: Jan 31, 2011, 05:43:52 PM »
OK i have a 90 extra cab 22re 5 speed with 85 front end ready to go under it, the breaks are stock on the front end. I also have a 90 4runner v6 auto tranny, is there a difference in the calipers, master cylinders, and break boosters? the 4runner is a parts truck the extra cab is what i want to get going. they both look the same to me so i was thinking of just pulling the ifs stuff off the truck but if the v6 stuff is better i want to use it insted let me no if iv missed anything please

If you have a solid axle it gives you bigger brakes with a vented rotor. Helps in stopping the bigger tires since the stock brakes were designed for a 28" tire. Better brakes on a DD, trail it does not matter that much.

on the trail is does matter.... when things get hot that is.....  when i went from stock to ifs calipers and such on my 84 i felt a HUGE differance in braking power.... and i didnt even change my master cylinder

I did my sas, stock calipers and MC, 36 tsls, brakes sucked balls. Went to ifs calipers, much better but pedal was soft, had to push it hard to grab. Grabbed a v6 MC from junkyard, bam perfect brakes, can stop and hold me on anything been on, will lock up all 4 pretty easily if I want to.

I'm using v6 calipers on my 93 22re, the stock ifs calipers worked great but the v6 stopped even better.

so you are saying there is a difference in the ifs 4 cylinder breaks and the v6? is it just the calipers?
