Wiring Conversions
« on: Jun 13, 2010, 12:46:41 PM »
Does anyone know of any places that build wiring harnesses for motor swaps (5vz-fe into an 84 carb). ORS is gone and i'm looking for a place that can help out with a friends project. Local or close to CA would be best. Also needs to be CA smog legal and is going to need to take a trip to the ref. Thanks for any help in advance.

Phoenix Tuning.  They're not cheap but i've heard nothing but good things about them.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

That was one I found in my search. I showed it to the friend who needs the work done and I guess he wanted to find something a little closer. I'll have to let him know that that one has been recommended and see if he'll reconsider

Thanks

    • My 3.4 swap into a 92 pickup

Hey Talon,

the wiring isnt all that hard if you have even the slightest mechanical common sense. I did all mine in my 3.4 swap into my 92 pickup myself and had/have no issues. Sure, you are going to have some headaches looking through all the diagrams and matching everything up but really the stock 3.4 harness terminates itself into the ECM. You simply need to tie it into a few components in your truck. Fuel pump, gauges, speedo, etc.

If you are going through the ref (which I did as well) the much harder task is going to be making the exhaust work if you are planning to use a manual transmission. If you figure that out, please let me know because from all my reading, you would be the first.
Using an auto with the stock 3.4 downpipe and crossover is a pregnant dog enough, with a manual its impossible (to my knowledge). You have a straight axle though so maybe that would be a bit roomier. Not sure.

Everything you ever need/want to know about 3.4 swaps is here:
http://www.yotatech.com/f160/

There are a few guys swapping 3.4's into your generation truck right now. Read there threads as they are doing their own wiring. Best to pick their brains while its all fresh

My personal thread on my swap is here:
http://www.yotatech.com/f160/had-officially-began-3-0-auto-3-4-manual-92-ex-cab-196823/

Let me know if I can help. I have tons of data, diagrams, etc.

Awesome, thanks for the help.

Yes we'll be doing the exhaust with a manual on his, and plan to do the same when i get around to doing the swap on my truck of the same year.

I will read the threads you suggested, and pass them on to my friend. Thanks for the help and i'll let you know if I have any other questions.

If you have questions, post up over at yotatech. There are tons of sharp dudes that know their stuff over there. I'll see your post there and help if I can.

I really do not think that the manual with the 96+exhaust is possible, and having it smog legal in california that is. outside of Ca, is no prob.

Why don't you think it's possible? Looks to me like all it needs is to be flipped in a creative way, we're no strangers to having to fabricate a lot
