1981 Toyota Cessida 6 Cyl
« on: Jan 23, 2011, 06:41:33 PM »
Not a 4WD i know but I wasn't sure where to post this one...

I got an '81 Toyota Cressida Wagon what has stopped working and I am at my wits end. It cranks fine, there is spark at the each cyl, there is fuel pressure (FYI this is a EFI), I have no signal to the injectors... So no fuel is getting shot into the cylinders. What other than the ECU controls the fuel injectors? Any hints on anything else I can look at someone told me it was the pick up in the distributor that was but I'm not to sure I was also told the ignitor that sits on top of the distributor coil was but I'm not convinced on that one.

did you try to prime it to get it to fire?  get a schematic and look for the ground to the cpu.  Should be constant power switching ground system,  Look for what has the same gound or fuse and see if that is working.  is your spark good enough to jump from the boot to block?  I have found even able to jump a plug not good enough to ignite.  Using known good parts is a good start before buying a new cpu if you can't figure something out.

Neat; I was under the impression the 5M series came out in 82 with the MkII Supras. Learn something new every day!

so that means your not getting fuel, check your pressure before the fuel rail, I'm not sure where there is a port on that one, open your fuel tank door and take the cap off.  have someone stand next to it and turn the key on, you should hear the pump prime if not bad pump or no power to pump.  Get a dmm and check for bat voltage at pump, if so change pump or find open.
