Just got back from Bald. snowy sections are pretty hairy.  snow is slick and muddy.

As noted above.  Good amount of snow still on the ground in areas.  Not a single rig on the trail when we were up on Friday.  Trailhead area was clear as it is always in the sun. Our stock Cherokee made it to Eiger no problems.

was that the redish color cherokee?? you made it through that area of snow before the trailhead?  I was in the 4runner. I am sure I could have made it but was short on time and needed to get to scout camp.  On my way down I saw all those rigs heading up on friday evening. some nice rigs!!

We just followed in the tracks on that snow drift prior to the trailhead.  It was fairly solid and somewhat frozen.  The only person we saw up there on Friday was a hiker coming down to go to Deer Camp.

Fire works on the lake July 3. Anyone going to the watch tower to see them?  W should have a group of 5 trucks if anyone is planing on going. Post up.

I am planning on watching from the Tower this year. Just need to get the Runner out of the shop long enough to wheel it that day.

hell yeah that would be a good trip to go see the fireworks can I be a pending member to the group thts going up.

The more the merrier. Just a heads up. There are usually ALOT of rigs up there for the fireworks. I would guess between 50-75 rigs on the hill top last year for the fireworks.
This is a pic from about the middle of the line looking left towards the tower. Just about as many rigs to the right of me. Plus everyone around the tower not shown in the pic.

is this an overnight trip? will people be camping up there? what are the rules for this

Some camp, Most make it down the hill after the fireworks tho. No rules other than any the Rangers may want to enforce. There are a few up there for the evening This is not an organized event. Just alot of local wheelers that go up for the show. Another great place to watch the fireworks from is LiL Shuteye above Bass Lake.

theres a better view from regular shuteye than lil shuteye, last year me and wife and kids were the only ones ups there and you could not drive all the way to the lookout( big snow drifts in between trees at the top), will probally be the same again.

hey chad we will be my grandmothers cabin up at beasore meadows for that weekend(7-4-11) sat thru tues,  will probally try to get up there on sun to see what it is like before we try mon night. my guss there will proablly be to much snow but who knows its been hot.

They do them at Shaver on the 3rd and Bass lake on the 4th.
