universal windsheild moulding part # needed
« on: Jan 07, 2011, 11:36:39 PM »
Just like the header...   82 toyota hilux
I just fixed up some cancer spots on my windshield frame, by the grace of god got the glass and old rubber out w/o breaking the glass.

Then the fun started, went to a couple of local "glass doctor" types each wanted $200+  :smack: to install windshield molding and MY old good as new TEQ glass,
you know the type of shops they start with year make and model, some typing, then the computer says they can do it for the expensive a$$ price...

I've been searching... yotatech came up with some solutions in the @160 price range

So the question is this, I took the stuff out nothing cosmic, Is the install really that hard? Is there a universal gasket (((PART #))) and a lowes/home depot type glass glue or butyl rubber sealant anyone has used to do this on my own, looking for function over form, no leaks, then looks...

Your thoughts, and a preemptive thanks

Is your windshield glue-in or held in with a gasket?

I had a windshield put in my 90 for about $150.00 and that was the place supplying the new glass. It was done a a small glass shop locatedat a P-N-P. I did not have the trim for it so the used a rubber molding that pushed down between the the glass and the body, it is held in place with the glue that holds the glass in.

Update I just got a windshield gasket, $48 1st gen specific, I got a tube of butyl rubber sealant at the hardware store, I'll 1/2 way test fit w/a few pics and part #'s, if the install doesn't look like i'll have to have 30 extra hands ill do it myself, waiting on parts rt now.

and yeah I'm just doing the chrome less  route

anybody got any tricks for the install?
I have found some t handle cable hooks that the pros use, thinking some 550 cord will do the trick???
