Universal Joint: What are you using ?
« on: Jul 03, 2020, 03:30:51 PM »
Having my Drive-line re-tubed with .250 walls by South Bay Drivelines and might as well change the u joints. Which one will be more reliable  and take more wheeling abuse ? The Marlin Universal Joints Made in Japan or The Factory Toyota u joints ?  Heck of a price difference too  :ack: Rig in question: SAS 95 Yota 4Runner dual t-case.
Someday I'll have an 85 Yota pickup like Marty Mcfly but in Crawler mode !!!

Thanks, Seems like the Matsuba brand is where all road lead too in pretty much every google-fu I do and the price isn't bad ether.  Quick question on the driveline nuts/bolts, I mean they do stretch out in time have you guys had good luck with re-using the old ones.

ive reused driveline bolts/nuts fer years. i keep a few in my toolbox incase i do break/loose one(or help others on the trail). i use factory toyota driveline bolts/nuts, ive heard that bolts can back out if you use anything else besides factory toyota driveline hardware.

edit:nuts and bolts

I prefer the Toyota factory part.  I would not hesitate to re-use the u-bots and nuts, unless the U-Joint was destroyed. U-joints will go many many miles before failing unless they are not properly lubed.  I use synthetic grease.

A trick I use to install them into the driveshaft yokes is to put the caps in the freezer overnight.

Good luck with your choice.
