Its a fluid design, most of the power is sent to the tire with the most traction, but it's an always changing thing

From what I understand, the front and rear diffs may be LSD.  The thing is that there is a middle diff (think xfer case in our trucks) that is also something like an LSD to send power to the front and rear.  Yeah, I know is a pretty crude description, but it's all that I know about them.

Basically, it is always in 4wd. The center diff acts as a limited slip transferring power away from the slipping tires. Under normal conditions it is evenly distributed front and rear, although I have heard it is 40/60 front to rear also (don't know if this is true).

I'm assuming your friend has a manual transmission? If it's an auto then it's probably different.

Edit: here's what I searched

its called a viscous coupling.....

and the newer cars use the brakes on the wheels that "slip" to send the power to the wheels that "grip" (sorta like the oldschool wheelers may have talked about applying there ebrake a little to help the open or limited slip diffs)   but differant lol

WRX may have LS diffs however....

The rear diff is LSD the front is open.  A WRX is a rear bias set up with around 60% of the power directed to the rear.  The Transmission has an integrated "t-case" to power the front and rear tires.

i liked the first sti for gymkahana 1 way better but if they were to give me his gymkahana 2 sti id drive it anyday

you kno ford had to do so much to that fiesta just to make it comparable to a stock sti let alone his past upgraded sti's
