A friend recommended a Marlin Crawler trans when the one in my 88 4runner went out.  Figured I'd join and see what all the fuss was about.  I'm still undecided whether to put in a Marlin or just have my current one rebuilt at the local shop.  I don't do any HEAVY wheeling but I do a decent amount of hauling for my little 22RE.  I'd eventually like to make the truck bulletproof with every mod I can but money is a bit of an object currently.  Anyway, thought I'd say hello and introduce myself.  BTW, my tranny ( according to Marlin's site and the tag on my engine compartment ) is a W56b.  Any ideas as to whether a W56a would fit?

the  A and B are pretty much the same. I can tell you this, Marlins transmissions are significantly superior to any "rebuilt transmission".  I had my first transmission rebuilt by the local Toyota dealership.  after not being impressed I drove on it for about a year before i got my Marlin transmission and have been towing, hauling, offroading (mud and rocks) with it for about 4 years now.   It still performs flawlessly.

Cool.  I'd really like a Marlin just not sure if I want to drop the coin just yet.  Do you, or any one else for that matter, know what the difference is between the a and b?  The reason I ask is that I saw a Marlin for sale on this forum for not much more than I was quoted to rebuild mine.  Problem is that it is an a not a b.  :( I'm planning on calling Marlin tomorrow for more info but it's Sunday, so I have time...
