I can get a winch, either variety.  I understand the pros and cons, with the electric and hydraulic.  What are some pros, cons, and real world experience with these winches.  I already know the obvious, truck must be running with hydraulic.  Electric, dual batteries a must.

Let me know.

I've heard you can run the hydro longer without worry of over heating it, compared to the electric

Yeah I have heard that a Hydraulic can have up to 100% duty cycle

I too, have been looking at the possible hydro winch.  One of my favorite pros is the small form of the hydro winch would allow me to tuck it up real close to the grill.

I run hydro winches on my tow trucks. You can run the hell out of them. 100% duty cycle. You do not have to have the truck running to power a hydro winch. you need a electric pump  with a res. I have two of the motors with res sitting in my shop. Been pondering on going front and rear hydro on my rig. The only down sides i see to hydro are. cant run then if your rubber up. the pump and res arnt made to work this way.  There the same size as a electric winch but they have a small pump sticking out the front side that would make them a PITA to mount. ( at least the ones i have do) I think they weight more then an electric too. ( havnt taken one of mine off in a while)  If you could figure out how to mod the pump and res to work at any angel then it would be well worth it in my mind. I have not been able to figure it out myself so i have not mounted my winches yet. Duel 12k ramseys would be kick ass. Ill try and get a few picks of my winches and electric pump/res for you. and with the electric pump you can still run a remote or a switch on a lead to run the winch. you wouldnt have to be next to the rig holding down a hydro lever.

Had a guy with a full size bronco come up to go wheeling one day... He'd just fitted a new milemarker hydraulic winch to the front of the rig, and it turned out to be useless because he was running it off his stock power steering pump which didn't have enough flow.

Just some food for thought... we had to use the electric winch on my yota to get his truck out, despite the brand new hydraulic winch, so plan accordingly

Food for thought, thanks.
