Depends on what you are going to do with it. When I started building 14 years ago the first thing was to re-gear and add ARB rear and Tru-Trak front, seconded and third things I did , all three done at the same time, CF 1 clutch (still running it) and a single Marlin 4.7 gear drive t-case (have duals now, same 4.7 case).

If it is a DD, never to see a trail---Chrome Shocks!!!!!!! :hahaha:

Cupholder. :gap:

Seriously.... dual ultimates, gears, pumped up 22re, locker, hi steer, armor.... and the one thing I'm still lacking that drives me nuts is a cupholder. Screw a front ARB and longfields, I'm putting in a damn cupholder next. :gap:

Lockers, changes the game. You won't have to skinny pedal through every tough section.

For offroading it's the duals. For the next all around upgrade is upholders. I have spilled more coffee in this thing than I would like to admit. New cars have 4 in the front and at least that many in the back.

after yesterday I would have to agree with anyone that says lockers of some type.  Snow was soft and twice one tire would spin and sink, good thing I purchased a snow shovel before going up.

Longs and hub gears(2 but they go together), then everything else gets built around it. Thats my first worry of a yota. I'd hate to be out any were and break a birf, you can when your stock and it sucks.

Not that duals or 4.7s, bigger tires, suspension, ect aren't really great, they are. And all necessary, but for the "best single upgrade" I would have to go with -Lockers...  Before anything else, traction is your biggest bang for the buck mod in my opinion.  A stock rig with lockers will do more than most built looking trucks with open diffs.
