Drifting to the left
« on: Sep 22, 2010, 04:03:48 AM »
Iv noticed my truck all of a sudden starts drifting off to the left. Its intermitant. I really notice it on the freeways. It will be driving straight, then all of a sudden without touching the brake it begins to drift. I think it may have something to do with my brake caliper. I was going to check with you guys and check it out when I get home.......87 pickup SAS on 33's. Thanks

Could be more than that too!  But if it is the brake, when it does it, pull over and that hub brake assembly will be hotter than the other side.  I had a older nissan p/u that would have brake grab for no reason, and it would want to take you right off the road right now!!

Check
~leaf spring bushings
~tie rod ends
~u-bolts
~hub bearings
~high steer/knuckle bolts

Its more of a slight pull rather than a sudden throw you off the road...if you know what I'm saying. I grabbed a laser thermo from work and I can't really see/feel a difference at the rotor or caliper

Jack it up, grab the tire top and bottom and wiggle it to see if it has any play in it. Also try side to side and look for excessive play.

Best to check to see if the steering rack has any play in it. I had a RWD Corolla that did the same thing. Sometimes it would pull sometimes it wouldn't. The rack was wore out and primarily only pulled on certain roads.

Justin Ill tell you why it is intermittent... Lemme guess it goes strait when you have a passenger and it pulls left when your alone... If you would lose some weight it wouldnt pull as hard to the left when your by yourself...   :gap:  Or just get a fat chick  to sit on your pass side and it will pull right!
