my uncle gave me his 2007 fj cruiser, and my friends are all have rock crawlers
is it possible to put a sas in to the car?

i personally would feel bad to take a 2007 fj off road.  i would either keep it as a dd or sell it and buy an sick already built crawler.  You could probably buy nicer rigs than your buddies.

after mentioning that you have a first gen with round headlights everything i say from now on will be partial to my beliefs.

Sell the stupid FJ and build up your 80!

Just so you can know your options, FJ Cruisers can and have been converted to straight axles. It is pricey though. I'd leave it alone and build the 80 for the trail.

Since you are new to wheeling, just wheel and build the '80 as your driving skills improve, it will be a lot cheaper to build it then the FJC.

how much do you think it would be just to tune it up right now?

If your '80 is stock, you could put some 33's, sliders and good bumpers on it for under $1k, buying used parts.  This would give you good recovery points front and rear, rocker protection, and a little more ground clearance.

For about $2500-3k(depending on the deals you find) you could do the above along w/gears, lockers, and dual cases.  I would expect a shop to charge about $3k just to do an SAS on the FJC, and that wouldn't include front and rear gears or tires.

hell plan on much more than 3k for a solid axle swap on on 07 fj. my buddy has a 99 tahoe and bought a set of 1/2 ton ford axles already swapped to leafs, noone in town wold do the 44 front 9 inch rear swap for under 5k.... it's a ridiculous labor bill especially if you haven't decided what axle to run, and than you gotta match the front and rear gear ratios so you don't hram the rest of the truck

my 83 toy i spend $250 for the 5 inch soft "flexy" lift, built extended shackles, moved the shackle mount up, crossover steering costed me $200 with help from a friend, 5.29's costed $150 and came with the 3rd members they were bolted into, my 35's i traded some trashed 31's for, and there new dic k cepeks. trust me you could have an 80 toy that crawls and fits places much better versus what it would cost to just mount an axle under your fj, not including wheels and tires to set it off.

think of it this way, the 80 already has a solid axle (and round headlights  :willynilly: :burnout: :beerchug:  :gap:  :eyebrow: ) you got the best first gen to improve, not hack apart like you would have to do to your fj

The cheap and easy way would be to build the 80.The expensive and unique way would be to sas the fj.
