any pros or cons to mounting shock on u-bolt plate?

I have buddy here at our shop who does Cal-Roc comps with his shocks mounted off his u bolt plate without any issues. I think as long as its mounted securely.

Basically I just mounted the shocks on my axle 1" from the leaf pack. 
Here is a bad angle pic of them but basically I ended up with about a foot between the tops of both shocks.

you say these are 1" away from the spring pack? and maybe you could get a better pic but i dont see how you have a foot between the top of the shocks? im working on my rear setup right now and just want to make sure i dont do it wrong.

ive ran them that way. it was a quick fix cuz the shocks i had were to short. im not setting them up that way this time around.
