DMV related question, help pls!
« on: Jul 01, 2010, 09:20:44 AM »
So I purchased a car out of state awhile back and it needed a ton of work to get it to pass CA smog. Now that i've got it CA smog legal I was going to transfer the car in my name  (yea probably should have did it immediatly) but I didn't for whatever reason.  Now i've lost the title and can't find it... don't have ANY info from the seller... so basically i'm screwed unless I can get back in contact with that person to get a bill of sale and duplicate title paper work signed.

So my question is how do you go about getting said person's info?

I'm thinking if I run a carfax it might show me the current owner of the vehicle... not sure about personal contact info though??

What would you do?

R.I.P to my Papa, I miss you pops......

Contact the dmv in the state it was owned, explain your situation and they should give you their last address.

might even be better to go in to a field office, their supervisors can get a lot through, you just have to keep talking to someone till you get an answer, the regular desk people wont know what is going on, and will jsut say you are sol

i did call the states dmv, they told me that I can obtain the person's info for a fee but that's only after I can prove that I purchased the vehicle.

... stupid...

anyways, I found the title!   thankfully.
