How important is a name?

Spawned from another thread:  which is more important, the name given a child by their parents or their actions throughout life?  Write whatever you're thinking  ;)

Personally, I couldn't care if the president's name was Peanut Butter Wet Fart.  The only things which I feel matter at all are his past, current, and future actions.  Those matter to me.  A name means absolutely nothing and has no bearing on what that person does.

I've only ever noticed halfwits and the less than intelligent aim focus on the name of an elected official  :dunno:

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

:headscratch: I would think peanut butter would cause more of a dry fart.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Not important as long as it isn't a stupid name or one that doesn't go with your last name.

You are absolutely correct that we should not let a person's name determine what we think of that person -- actions, history, intentions, and character should be considered when forming opinions of others. However, even though a name doesn't directly affect who you really are, it can have some effect on how others view you, and even how we view ourselves. Unless you change it, you are stuck with it for life, and many parents agonize at length when selecting names for their little tax-dependents-to-be.

Not everyone would be comfortable going through life being called "Hey, :moon:!"

Even if it fits.  :disturbed:

I'm down for whatever kind of rabbit trailing or off topic bs that anybody wants to add to this thread, it's more of a joke than anything, but I stand firm on no bible/religion talk  ;)

I giggle a little when i think about the whole obama osama deal. But i don't know if i could vote for "Peanut Butter Wet Fart".

Would he be Mr. Fart? or would it be President Wet Fart..... Didn't we have one of those already?

Your name is simply your identifier, your actions define you.

As noted above people have selected stage names the are better suited for the attitude they want to protray. Stay away from cutesy names that will fade and haunt the Lil fart in the future.

Definitely actions--a given name means absolutely nothing.  Could just be in your family's heritage somewhere down the line, or your parents could have just seen it on TV the year you were born.  I know cute little ginger kids named Tiana and Sheniqua.  I know a couple different asian chicks named Jessica.  Especially working at a University and dealing with hundreds of students' names online, sometimes I am shocked to finally see a picture of them.  I once worked with a blonde haired blue eyed chick named Tyuh.  WTF kind of name is that??  haha.  I had NO idea what to expect before I met her, but it wasn't what I saw.  She even confirmed it was just a name her parents pulled out of their :moon:, nothing special in her heritage.  And on the other hand I once had a tall blonde-haired blue-eyed student worker named Christina and was shocked to find out that she has direct Thai heritage!

So yeah...in my opinion you can't tell a single thing about a person just by their given name.

It's not important at all.. I will say this though. I regularly find myself think of people I have met in the past with the same name as new people that I meet, like if there is someone that really gets on my nerves, I may relate the two names but everyone deserves a fair chance.

I'd be willin' to bet..there has never been a astrophysicist named Bunny, Lurlene or Wynoner. Or a champ boxer named Skyler.

   Yeah, you're probably right there!  haha.

My sister-in-law wanted to name her baby girl Zoey, but decided to spell it Zoe because she thought that would look more professional in a Presidential election.  LOL.  Still prounounced the same though.
