cool, i drive to the mtn to snowboard a lot in the winter how will a locker handle at higher speeds in the snow? obviously more traction but someone told me i want a limited slip in front if i use 4hi a lot?

pumkin toy

yeah a full time front locker sucks to drive with in 4hi.  It will pull your front end all over the place and make it hard to steer.

A selectable locker would be the ideal option in the front for winter driving cause you can disengage it. You should throw the locked 3rd member in the rear if it isn't locked.
Nice project. You should paint it silver.

I installed a TRD e-locker in the front of mine....got it pretty cheap and the install was easy. Love being able to lock the front only when needed.

4runner will be nice when you are done, but I am partial to sas'd 2nd gen 4runners

Just like 86bobbedtoy said, your diffs are exactly the same bolt pattern and fitment. They will swap front to rear with no problems, however since you do have a 3.4 swap it would be nice to keep the v6 third member in the rear.  Was your 4runner originally a v6 or 4cyl?

yeah the v6 third is stronger.  I belive the case has two more strength ribs cast into it and It also using way bigger bearings inside.

nice, so that locrite in front will work in my rear V6 3rd right?
I honestly couldnt tell ya for sure, but when you go to marlins website and look at their lock rite's for sale you have to specify whether its for a 4cyl third or a v6 third.  So that leads me to believe that they have some differences.

hey fool, ha got any pictures of how much you cut out of the rear. I mean like where the coil buckets were or are and all the brackets im doing the same swap to a 94 right now.. like im about to go work on it haha. I haven't ever done a leaf swap and I didn't want to cut everything out just most of it cause a lot of it is used for other things like upper controll arm is the gas tank mount and that cross member that the shocks hooked to hold the tank and proportioning valve just wanted to see what you did and how it came out. Runner looks good dude ill post some up of the one im workin on via build thread 89 extra cab on tons...

i can take a few pics, i cut the upper control arm mount off without messing with the gas tank mount, i cut that whole crossmember out that the shocks and prop valve mounted to, have a shock hoop for the shocks and im making a custom mount for the valve, thanx man yeah im stoked its almost back on the road, psyched

89sastoyo

for sure it looks good. I went and started cutting yesterday I pretty much cleaned everything up what really left is the x member the shocks bolt to but ill cut it out because I plan on triangulating the rear shocks with a tower anyways.

What joint are you running at the t-case? You may need to clearance it or replace it with one that has more range of motion. I used a CV from an 85.
