93 4runner lift
« on: Dec 15, 2004, 03:15:11 PM »
My buddy just picked up a 93 runner and wants a 4" suspension lift. He wants the cheapest lift he can get, what do you guys think would be the lift for him. He wants to find one $500.00 or less.

None that I am aware of for under $500... but he can crank the torsion bars in the front and add a coil spacer in the back for about 3ish inches of lift. Even with shocks it would be cheap.

He wants to squeeze a set of 33's under it and he plans on trimming the fenders for a little extra room. It has 31's on it now but I don't think you can get enough out of the torsion's for 33's. Can you?

yeah I've seen 33's on a setup like that, no fender trimming either because you really won't gain much articulation or performance, mostly just aesthetics and ground clearance is all that will be gained. If it sags a little in the back now, like most of them do you can also level it out in the process.

U can fit a pair of 33's on there with out a lift thats what i ahe right now the only thing is u have a little bit of rub in the front when u take sharp turns! very tillte trimming is needed! i jsut picked up a 4 in suspension lift made by procomp and that ran me a good 1500 good luck with the cheap under 500 dollar suspension lift because it is the ifs system. if his runner is a manuel he can get a body lift for about 150. If its an auto like mine is he has to get a suspension. I hate my auto!!

i have a 90 runner that i put a 4" lift on.  it took 2 of us about 16 hours with a car lift.  of course part of that time was spent trying to figure out what was what and dreaming about other projects  .  i bought a used trailmaster lift for the front and a used procomp for the rear with 2.5" aluminum spacers.(found them on pirate4x4)  had about $600-650 in it once i bought new shocks.  then i got sick of the front always getting beat out of alignment  :smack:  and the rear tearing the upper control arm mounts off the axle housing  :smack:  and did a sas and chevys  .  $1600+/- in the sas and $100+/- in the chevys.

try to find a used lift, that would be the best way to go for cheap, or a body lift, but you wont get 4 inches.  I owuldnt go more than 2, but i have a 3" on a pickup right now.  Crankin the torsion bars makes for a pretty rough ride, the lift is just better to do in my opinion.

Thanks for the info. I've been trying to talk him into a SAS but he doesn't want it. We're going to crank up the torsions for now and go from there.

hey Guys for another lift in the front you can always go the balljoint spacers and crank the tbars
less angle on the cv and a bit more wheel travel out the front.
Go with 2" coils at the rear with a coil spacer if you go too high the pinnion angle gets a bit too much
4" is realy the max then you need the best length rear shocks rancho9009 for the most travel.\
Hers a link on the Ball joint spacers

The standard recipe for fitting 33s under a 2nd gen 4runner is:

1.  crank up tbars or do ball joint spacer
2.  Downey 1.5in coil lift in rear (or any 1.5 inch lift to level it out)
3.  Roger Brown 1" body lift
4.  Minor fender trimming.

Lots of people have this setup and can do trails like the rubicon and dusy (with other mods).

For more lift in the rear you can go with FJ80 rear coils for a 3-4 inch lift.

If u just get a 1 or 2 in body lift you can fit a pair of 33's nicely underneath it! its also depending on if its a stick or auto if its a stick your all gravy for a body lift if not suspension lift is the option or the ball joint spacers! my 33's have very little rub and i didnt do much to fit em either everythign is how it was wheni had a set of 31's under it!

Hey Guys
Whats the problem with doing body lifts on Autos?
I have a Auto tho it does have a divorceable transfer case is this the prob you guys have that your auto is not divorceable?
I had no problems goin to a 1" body lift then when i went 2" i just ground the tunnel for the low range lever.
Be interesting to know why .
Thanks Dave

1-2" BLs are fine.  Higher ones have more headaches.

You still need the bracket for a 2" BL trust me you wont notice it in normal driving or H4 but when you shift in L4 you got some thumping going on...therefore you need the A/T bracket.... I know cause I have it

bolt them up.   I ran 33x10.5 TSL's on mine with stock suspension and no rubbing.  rims, i think, are 15x7 with 3"?? backspacing, they were off my buddys 84 truck.  no fender trimming needed, no body lift needed, no lift, nothin.
