22RE injector info needed
« on: Feb 14, 2010, 08:37:54 PM »
well guys,  my daughter and son-n-law are buying Vmans blue 4runner, its a 88 22RE and isn't running, i pulled the fuel rail and after inspecting the injectors saw that the this plastic shell/coating on the end that goes in the manifold was cracked on almost every injector.  the little 4mm thick spacer thing looked fine but what about that "coating" on the end??  do we have to have that??
should the injectors be sent to somewhere like RC Engineering for cleaning ??

Glen, do you mean the black piece at the lower end of the injector?  Mine have a plastic/rubber piece covering the actual end of the injector, with a hole for the fuel to come out of.  I tried to get a better pic of some injectors, but my shop is a disaster.  And I can't find my spares.

And this was before they were cleaned.

The one one the far right is probably what yours looks like right???

I sent mine to http://www.witchhunter.com/ and they had them back in no time.  I would definitely get them cleaned, since they will clean them, see what they are flowing at, and replace all the o-rings, screens and bushings.  Look at their site and it will tell ya what they all do.

I also sent my injectors to witchhunter to be cleaned and flow tested, came back looking like new. Great service with quick turn around, no complaints.

Check their site glen, they give you the full run down on what all they do, and it's not just as simple as a quick cleaning.

I'll be mailing them the injectors + the cold start injector from my 4runner 3.0 tomorrow. Doing the head gaskets so i figured i might as well service the injectors at the same time.

I'm building a 3rz and ran into the same thing Glenn.  I could only find them at the dealership and they were called injector spacers.  I can't even get them out of the head without breaking them but i haven't purchased them yet so I hope they're referring to the correct part, but i did see them called that in a manual.  Anyway they were less than 3$/ea.

What's the cost of cleaning them?

What's the cost of cleaning them?

$19.00 ea plus $10.00 return shipping. My 3.0 injectors resemble my 22RE injectors before they were serviced which is why i am sending them in, especially since the 3.0 is a total PIA to work on and want everything done right the first time around

Best $109.00 I spendt.  If your tearing into a motor with a set of injectors with unknown mileage on them, it's best to get them cleaned.

And when you install them, follow the FSM by lubing the o-rings with gasoline as you install them.

we can keep this as a injector knowledge thread i guess

new (probably rebuilt since they expect your injectors for a core of $48) cost $199 thru LCE hopefully they work well since his cam is the LCE .440 pro cam

I sent mine to witchhunter while Putney was rebuilding my motor. They were a great deal fast and even sent me all the old parts they replaced so I could see how dirty they were. It pretty amazing how much crap gets caught is the screens. They also sent me the flow test charts so I could see the before and after comparison. Highly recommended.

cam 180 degrees out? no spark plugs in the block? :dunno:

Btw, I sent my injectors, including cold start, to witchhunter to be tested and cleaned. Two of them were leaking pretty good and another had a poor spray pattern. Engine ran better after that; especially after I found out the original was replaced with a '93 2wd 22re.  :smack:

no apparently the rocker arms were tightened down way too tight and only the #4 cylinder had compression,  once we che cked compression and figured that out it ran great,  um i mean it ran ok, but needed much more work :outtahere:

X1000 on witchhunter. I have had them do 3 sets for me and reccomended them to dozens. Every motor ive put them in has run absolutely flawless afterwards. Make sure you do a new fuel filter at the same time or they will just clog up again.
