Driveline vibration problem
« on: Nov 21, 2004, 06:56:18 AM »
Last year I bought an 85 shortbed toyota pickup with 33's and a 5 inch skyjacker lift kit.  It has a bad driveline vibration between 25-30 mph and again at 50 plus.  I swaped in the driveshaft from my 85 4runner to see if it was the driveshaft.  No change.  I inspected the t-case pinion, no plus, nut tight.  The rear diff pinion nut was not tight, and the pinion had play.  So I swaped in another 4.10 4cyl diff.  No change in the vibration.  What else could be causing this problem?  Has anyone else had vibration problems with the 5 inch SkyJack lift kit?

Thanks

Chris

87 runner, 4" trailmaster lift, 33" TSL/SX, 5.29's V6 e-locker, 22re that cost too much

Bad driveline angle, you need to have a CV shaft built and correct the pinion angle. Cut the spring perches off the axle, rotate the pinion up so its pointing at the t-case and weld new perches on the axle.

What I don't understand is I have a friend with an 85 4runner who had the same lift kit/setup and no problems.  Also, my 4runner has about half an inch less lift with no problem.  I would think that since SkyJacker sells their kits a bolt on that they wouldn't sell a setup that didn't work.  I do not want to have a driveshaft made up now because I am going to put a crawler box in it next summer.  I will have a CV shaft made for it then.

Thanks for the help.

Chris

still using my front springs from that lift.  i never had vibrations!  Do you have the shims underneath the leaf pack to correct your pinion angle?

I've tried it with and without the shims.  No change.  One of my friends who works on cars a lot said it may be a bad wheel bearing.  Could that be the case?  I have a 94 rear that I am building to swap in.
