84 4runner

I bought this 4runner a little over a year ago. Wasn't sure what I was gonna do with it at the time but the motor had to be built so I pulled the motor and sanded off a few layers of different colored paint and primer. Then I lost interest for a while, until my daily driver (87 4runner) gave me problems. So then I started working on it some. Here are some pics of where it started and how far I've gotten so far.

So, we built the motor, new crank, pistons, head worked. Painted all under the hood while I had the motor out. Pulled what little was left of the interior and decided to donate the good interior out of my 87 to this project

Thanks!  The door panels are next but that will be after the body work and paint are done. I still need a few odd and end pieces but haven't dug them up yet

What color is it going to be? is it gonna be a daily or a wheeler or mix?

Its going to be a daily driver mainly. May see a little offroad use since it has 3" springs and I have some 34"x10.50" TSL for it.  I haven't decided on a color yet but am leaning toward some sorta charcoal gray

nice job on the interior how about painting it teal or midnight blue

look up dupont pewter metallic
it looks bad ass on the runners and hids dirt and dents really well
and is mainly a single stage paint, my cost is 80/gall with hardner
not sure what it is normally cant be over 100-150

Thanks for the input guys!  I still have a little time to decide on a color. After we work out a carb issue it's going to my buddies shop for the body work. The cool thing is that he has a 2 post lift so I'm going to lift it and clean under it and paint/undercoat it before we start the body work!  I hope it turns out well!

Well, we got the carb issue worked out!   Cranks and runs really good now considering it's been like 10 degrees the past few days!  Went and picked it up from my buddy Lyle's shop and carried it to another shop where I hope to start cleaning and painting the underside of it!  I'll try to post up some more pics soon

It's actually a newer chevy color.  Graystone met.  base/clear

I can't believe that dash pad! So nice. I don't think I've seen one that isn't cracked in 10 years. What was wrong with the donor? Is your '84 still sitting on it's original rear axle? It looks kinda narrow in the last picture, like it needs a +'86 rear axle to make the track wider.  Love the paint. I have a '84 xtra cab that is the original metallic gray color.  My '84 has a '89 22RE with all the trimmings. I'm surprised you didn't swap the 22RE out of the donor while you had the dash apart (would have made the wiring a breeze. -- Matt

The donor is an 87.  The head gasket is leaking on it a little and it's an automatic ( which isn't shifting properly ) so that's why it made a good donor.  I'm just gonna keep it around to play with some.

The 84 is all stock drivetrain for now.  It's gonna be a dd so not really worried about the rear width. I have a 86+ rear in my 85 runner trail rig and it does make a considerable difference.  

Well, either way I was gonna have to build the motor.  I've never had a 22r so I figured what the heck, let's keep the carb.
