Lock rite stumper
« on: Dec 29, 2009, 07:47:04 PM »
So in my toy I am running 5.29's and a lock rite in the rear.  I have run these lockers before and have never had any problem with them. Just recently it started racheting a lot more and now that the roads are a little slicker since the snow it has been slipping. It sounds like the noise a peddle bike makes when you are just coasting along. I pulled it all apart and checked that everything was in and aligned properly. I didn't find anything at all. Not even metal shavings in the bottom of the pumpkin. Does anyone have any idea what in the heck could be causing this? it's not an everyday occurence but since i daily drive my truck it's a big problem. If you have any ideas on what this could be please let me know. thanks

ive heard that the teeth on the clucth would round off causeing you to slip off or ratchet alot more thats what ive heard about loc rites and why you shouldt run them in the back i was gonna run one in the back but instead im running an ez locker in the front because of that same problem you having just to avoid it rounding off alot quicker

My buddy has the same problem in his 89 and he said that the slots for the pins are starting to get alot of freeplay causing the locker to not rachet correctly and thus making his locker ratchet a lot more often

I have had a lockrite in my 89 for over 10 years and it works like new. But I only run 31's. I had a detroit ez-lock in my 4runner and it went bad as soon as it was put in. It would open up and close while going down the interstate. That sucked, I sent it back and 4wheelparts gave me what I paid for it towards a full detroit.

im not sure about any warranty, but if you catch it before it gets to bad your can buy a pin kit and replace the pins and springs.
or save your money and buy a detroit or one of those new grizzly lockers from yukon and never have to worry about it again

No they were all the same with even wear. The diff. shop said he has had several that he installed and they had the same problem. He has installed many that never had a problem, my dad and my brother has them in both of their trucks running 33's front and rear. They both have been fine for over 5 years now. Mabie just a lemon here and there??
