Lock-Rite installation Help!!!

So i'm wanting to put my Lock-Rite in my rear 8.4 Third non TRD. 5.29's.  does anyone know where i can get a good writeup on this? i just want to know if its something i can do in my garage, or am i going to have to take it in to a shop. i can't setup gears my self . Thanks    :hammerhead:

well the lockrite u can do yourself.

its pretty much the same as an aussie and they are very easy.

it is very wasy to do i did my aussie it was simple not sure about lock rites but aussie came with a complete how to with pictures and everything

ok so the ring gear and carrier can stay inside the third and all i have to do is take out the spiders and install the locker?

If i remember right, i pulled the carrier out, removed the ring gear to get the spiders out, then installed the lock rite in where the spiders where. Its been at least 10 years since i've installed lockrites.. They are easy. It should come with instructions. I've installed about 3 for my friends along time ago.

Dude, go check out gearinstalls.com. Zuk has several setups with a luchbox locker.

ya i checked that out. but like i said i don't know how to set up my own gears. like the backlash. just wondering if i could install this with out having to do that. i have never gotten a straight answer.

If you have to pull the carrier out to install it you will have to re-set the backlash. Everything else will be fine because you are not messing with the pinion so the gear pattern should be the same. Back lash is not that hard to set-up but you do need a dial indicator and someway to hold it. Both can be sourced at Harbor Freight fairly cheap.

this is a pretty good write up. its on a v6 8" diff though. Not a 8.4" but im guessin its pretty close if not the same.
