So I have a question for everyone, I have some money saved up for my toyota and can't decide between duals or a roll cage. I already have the 4.7 in my case now with 5.29's in the axles. But also due to safety would like a in cab roll cage kit. Anyone have any input? thanks guys

Seeing as you've already got the 4.7s, I'd go with the cage.  Having dumped my truck over more in the last year or so than in the whole time I've wheeled it, (and flipping my DD last march), and seeing the results of not having upgraded cab support, not having a cage makes me a little nervous now.  with the 4.7s, you're in pretty good shape for crawling now, so I'd get the cage now, ensuring you can buy the duals later :gap:

yeah considering you already have case and third gears i would probly go for a cage.  Would you have to buy a pre-fabbed one or build it yourself?  If you have the skill and resources to do it yourself, it really doesnt cost much to build a basic cage that will protect the cab. Then you will still have :twocents: for duals! :yesnod:

yeah I am about 5'9. i just don't likr exos to much. I have ridden in a buddies with an in cab cage in a first gen and didn't have a problem but my truck is a 3rd gen and seems to have some good head room.

pumkin toy

yeah 3rd gen should be fine with in-cab cage if you are 5'9"   I am the same height and have ridden in a couple with in cab cages and they really were'nt too bad.

Rocksurfer

Yup, go with the cage, you already have low gearing so now you need to protect yourself.

Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Im 6'2'' roughly and my inner cage doesn't bother me.  just pad it and it shouldn't matter.

Yea, the cage but i like the exo because they protect the windshield also. I haven't invested in 5 pt seat belts yet so right now i don't wear my seat belt on the trail and don't like banging my head on anything

If you're not wearing any belts, a cage is probably the least of your problems imho.

Ok sounds good thanks guys. I appreciate all the input especially since all my buddies say gears over cage. I don't run the hardest trails because my truck is still a dd. but you are right live to wheel another day

I say roll cage as well . No offence but your buddies don't sound like a smart bunch if they're concerned with performance over safety  ;)

I think that they are worried about safety but they just are thinking i take it easier than they do, But I agree a roll can happen at any time

Im 6'0 and hated my interior cage. even bumping your head on padding sucks. i went with a partial exo to protect the windshield since i think most full exos look shitty.

anfkndy

its not if, its when you will roll! definetly a cage

Thats what I was gonna say
                              Its all about SAFETY

toymaniac

I put in duals before a cage and because I didn't have a cage I didn't wheel trails hard enough to effectively use the duals.  Safety is definitely important.

Leni

P.S.  I have a cage now.

Do a cage I have been on my top more than a dozen times it is worth it you never know when you are going over.
