Land Cruiser Axle Q's
« on: Dec 15, 2009, 12:23:18 PM »
I have some questions....

I want width for axles...
I have been looking into D60s and 14Bs

But I got curious, a FJ80 is wider then a mini toy.
at 63in WMS - WMS

FJ60s are 60" but stunt the 9.5in diffs and are interchangable with Mini axles on most parts.

So my question is...... Run a FJ60 with IFS hubs? pushes the WMS's to what 63? and i get the 9.5in diff and get to stay toyota.
being as my reasoning for going 8lugs was i was worried bout the 8in diff not being strong enough, as they are usually the weak link.

OR

Run a FJ80 with IFS HUBs (is this possible?) or 1.5in spacers and get it to 66in in front and run a T100 Rear?

Thanks guys.....

if your just worried about strength get Longfields and be done with it   if you want to go through the hassle of making a 60+ inch axle just do the full widths.

my 80's are about 78" to the outsid eof the tires. the rear is 9.5" ring and FF.
the front has bigger birfs but 8" third. if you dont go full hydro then steering is gonna be a b*#ch. i wish i could have gotten a ruff stuff or diamond front housing so i could run a 9.5 front third

FJ60 is 58" stock, everything except the actual diff could be swapped onto the mini axle or vice versa, maybe 60ish after ifs hubs... Not sure what it ends up with. You could get an FJ80 with a high pinion front 3rd with bigger birfs(longfield makes longs for this axle), steering for 80 axle would be a challenge or way expensive. you could get a rear 80 axle with full float and the bigger 9.5" diff, not sure on e-lockers with that diff but I hear its heavy and its offset like 5ish inches... If your  trying to stay toyota and looking for width, go for the 80. If your wanting a bigger diff to kinda cure the small pinion 8" and getting arid of your current wheel spacers up front, go for the FJ60. If your ballin' and want width, go diamond with 60 9.5" diff and 60 steering.

Well with the bigger birfs you would need the 80 knuckles which would put you in the perdictament of steering... Sorry if my post may have confused you. I ment mini toy knuckle balls with regular ole high steer, arp studs and whatnot. Slee Offroad makes high steer for the 80 but its like 1k for just the arms... Something like that.

that is EXPENSIVE!!!

But the way I see it is... im going on a route as how i'd like it... no short cuts. I would like an 80 with a 9.5diff.
and run 1.5in spacers? make it into a 66in front and run a T100 Rear End. :P

80s are nice... But with v8 power just go with a d60. By the time you do all the work to have an 80 axle ready you could have a good 60 done, w/out spacers...

slee steering arm kit is $750 wich makes it double sheer steering. not sure why you would want that wide of an axle(66in) i would look into diamond or ruff stuff for a front housing. run the 80 axle with the 9.5" third. if you keep your truck lowish you dont have to worry about the offset rear housing being a problem. i love my axles

I'd like to see what an 80 axle stock looks like under mine i guess before i can say if 66in is what i want... all i know is 58.25in is not happenin!

80s are nice... But with v8 power just go with a d60. By the time you do all the work to have an 80 axle ready you could have a good 60 done, w/out spacers...
