Question about Marlin's truck:
« on: Nov 22, 2009, 09:50:17 PM »
What do his rear bumper brackets look like?

I was wondering if they are straight or bent because the rear skirt area of his bed is cut and the bumper is lifted up for clearance.  I've been thinking about doing this to my '85.

i built a rear bumper for my 85 4runner and i welded to the frame straight off and cut out for the tube to come out of the body, i only had supports on the side cause the tube that came out under the tail gate wouldn't open so i 86 that, i was strong but everyone has there own opinion to a bumper set up should be

i also tried to duplicate the factory ones but it hung too low and looked funny to me

Yeah, I wan't as much clearance as possible, especially since I don't plan on bobbing it.  I may have to put a 1" or so drop in the brackets to get the tailgate to open and close properly, but I want 1/4 to 1/2 inch clearance from the bottom of the tailgate to the bumper.

Marlins bumper brackets are curved down,  but you do still need to notch the skirt a little

Glen, I realize that the brackets on the bumpers they sell are curved down to help clear the skirt ( but skirt still needs notching), but it looks like the bumper on Marlin's personal truck may have different brackets because his entire skirt is gone and the bumper is moved further up.  Does anyone have pics of the rear end of Marlin's personal truck?

If the skirt is removed on a first gen, a straight bracket can be used easily with the stock bumper bolt holes in the frame.

I hope the same can be done for my second gen
