tips on getting smoke smell out of truck?
« on: Nov 16, 2009, 11:02:49 PM »
So my girlfriend (charlieknowsnothing) is a 2 month quitter, and has discovered that she hates the smell of cigarette smoke.  Does anyone have any tips or tricks to getting the smell out of her truck?

thanks!

Febreeze?? I have tried a few products but the spray febreeze seems to be the best odor killer. Never had a totally saturated vehicle before, usually use it after I let friends smoke a cig in my car/runner. (I don't smoke) :dunno:

Honestly, I'm crazy sensetive to cigarette smoke smell and have only found a long time or complete interior fabric replacement the only ways to get the smell out.  All I noticed with febreeze was it smelled like a smoker who sprayed themselves with it.

It helped in my truck to get the smell ( notso much cigarrette as just a really nasty mold smell mixed with cigarrettes) to do a good job shampooing all the carpets and then some febreeze type stuff

I've always heard of of coffee grounds.  But the best thing is a good thorough cleaning.  You'll get most of it out, but not all of it.  (ie. vents and cloth)

Just steam clean the seats and fabric, and a good degreaser/cleaner for everything else.  And a case of those tree air fresheners.  Or those little clip on air fresheners that attach to the vents.

YOU GO GIRL :woohoo: Jason I used dryer fabric sheets to remove the smell in my truck after I quit smoking and it werked out great, take about 4 or 5 of the dryer sheets and place them in the truck in different locations and leave them there and the smell will eventually go away like her habit did  and give her a big :smooch: fer me for being a quiter   :clap2:

I second the dryer sheets they work great.  I have also used the fresh coffee grounds and they work as well.  We also used to put the coffee grounds in our baby's room to catch the smell when they did a nasty poo.  Surprisgnly it works but if you don't like the smell of coffee it makes it hard to deal with.

A super thourough vacuuming will do wonders.  if ya get all the little ashes out it will smell less.  I do this everytime i quit.  :gap:

Thanks guys :D.

She's used the fabreeze, it's more of a short term fix than a permanent one. I think we might try the coffee grounds and or dryer sheets. The steam cleaning and pulling the seats out sounds good too.  Thanks!

And Dave, I'll pass on that :smooch: for ya :gap:

Carpet cleaner will do the trick, and I'm refering to professional grade stuff like Zep. Delute it down and put it in a spray bottle spray everything with it including the roof. Then while it is still wet scrub everything with a stiff brush except the roof. Now wipe everything including the roof with a towel. Works pretty good to draw all that tar out. We have a spray at work that works like Frebreeze and it does work called Bradley's All Purpose Cleaner, don't know where you'd get it on the open market though. I just went through this with the H3 and it worked like a charm.
