We went to the annual event in Panamint Valley put on by Cal4Wheel, on Friday someone rolled off Chicken Point by Southpark just above the bridge and fell into the ravine. If you have ever been there you know where I speak of and can already guess how bad it was. I have pictures of the recovery of the vehicle a Jeep Cherokee, I was told by some that were winching the vehicle out of the ravine that there were three people in it and that even though they were air-lifted out that they were OK with some minor injuries. I will post the pictures shortly and also some of the other stuff we did.

:eye: Amazing that they would be okay after a tumble like that.

Once I get these images downloaded and resized you will wonder how anyone survived.

There are some reports on Pirate that the driver is doing well.  I'm sure your pictures would be welcome there too.

Remember that all of these are mid recovery, the vehicle was further down the ravine.

Where the hell is the road? All I see is people and ravine.

A few more of the recovery, the recovery vehicles and a view of the trail from below for a prospective of where they fell off of, the trail is almost at the top. I would like to acknowledge the crew that recovered the vehicle they did an excellent job and considering that they winched up rock walls and some pretty big waterfalls they did some great work.

The driver and kids are doing well.  Driver was airlifted to Riverside as a precaution.  Kids went via ambulance to Ridgecrest.
All are home.

Thanks to those that helped on this recovery.
The driver is a member of the Hanford Trail Busters along with her husband.  They both wheel.

But the jeep did start and we used its own power to help get it up and out of the canyon.

I cant begin to imagine how scared they all were.  Im not one to preach, but God was definitely there looking over them when that happened.  Thanks goes out to everybody who joined to effort to recover the Jeep.

Wow, that is amazing. I'm glad the people are doing well.

:yikes:   its VERY obvious  was with them, especially since many more have died from far FAR less carnage,

remember the young man that died a year or two ago from a simple flop in the desert :headshake:

Anywho, there was also an event in Panamint, so we did some other things too, the day started with our club's president tcase getting jammed as he tried to shift into 4wd, it is a common issue with Samurai's but usually can be fixed by removing the shifter and manually moving the shift rods. I tried to free it up but one of the rods would not move so we were unable to free it up. Once it was decided that another member would tug him back I hopped in one of the trail hands to catch up with the group. The only other incident occurred when a Jeep cut a tire on the steepest part of a downhill section and changed it on the hill. Other than that everything went smoothly even at Chicken. We were back in camp for happy hour with time to spare. The run was led by the Gear Grinders and they did an excellent job at keeping things moving along, thanks guys.

On Sunday we did Defense Mine and Lookout on our own several of our group took on the optional wash on Defense and it gave us little trouble. I brought an H3 Hummer and except for it being a little low I had little trouble on the trail. To end the day we went up to the ghost town of Lookout and checked out the area, we then checked out Stone Canyon which is now closed and inside a protected area. We then headed back to camp for happy hour, afterward RFG and I headed for home.

Yeah I guess it is, I promised Campfire Girl that I wouldn't wheel it but I just couldn't resist it. It actually did quite well for what it is though it is lacking in the ground clearance and in fact I ripped a skidpan off of the front.

I didn't take it on Pleasant since it would have been the first time out in it and I didn't want to hold up the event if it didn't do well. Now after taking it up to Defense Mine I would do Pleasant in it.

Street tires, and they are actually fairly new. Though I shaved a few pounds off of them that day.
