new gear break in
« on: Nov 11, 2009, 09:24:49 PM »
So im currently working on installing a set of yukon 5.29s in my 84 toy and the contact on there site dident work so i thought you guys would no. In the instruction booklet that came with the gears it says to drive the gears for 500 miles before towing with them so i am assuming its the same for wheeling right? and also if i do have to break them in for that  many miles how do i put those miles on the front end?:headscratch:

i wouldn't worry about it as long as yours gears are setup pretty close to specs. those are just the desirable conditions for breaking gears in. just be somewhat easy on them until they begin to mesh better and bearings fully break in.

dude, its all about the heat cycle,

drive it 5 miles, then ten, let it cool completely,  then drive again,  do this over and over, its not hard, "oh i need to go to walmart,  (5 miles away) spend some time selecting your items, then your cooled and can drive again
